Munnar is Asia’s second best travel destination after Tokyo – Kerala Tourism: Munnar is beautiful picturesque hill station in Kerala’s Idukki district, has been ranked as the second best Asian tourism destination after Tokyo by Trip Advisor, a popular travel guide and research website. In TripAdvisor’s 2010 Traveler’s Choice Destination awards, Tokyo emerged on top, followed by Munnar in the second spot and Siem Reap in third spot.Munar, the name usually refers to the whole tourist area of the Idukki District of which the town forms only a small part.The name KeralaMunnar is believed to be derived from the Malayalam/Tamil words Munu (three) and aaru (river), referring to the town’s strategic location at the confluence of the Muthirappuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. Sprawling tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes, trekking and holiday facilities make Munnar a unique experience for the tourist and traveller. Munnar is essentially a tea town.
