temple timings and ‘Vithoba’ or Vitthala Panduranga darshan. Pilgrimage tour to Vithoba temple – Pandarpur is an important pilgrimage city on the Bhimā river in Solapur district, Maharashtra, India.

The Vithoba temple attracts about half a million Hindu pilgrims during the major yātrā (pilgrimage) in the month of Ashadh (June-July). Pandarpur is one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra.Vithoba temple or Vittala Pandurang temple, Pandharpur is the main centre of worship for the Hindu deity Vithoba, believed to be a local form of god Krishna or Vishnu and his consort Rakhumai. It is the most visited temple in Maharastra. The warkaris start marching from their homes to the temple of Pandharpur in groups called Dindi to reach on Aashadhi ekadashi and Kartiki ekadashi. A dip in the holy river Chandrabhaga on whose banks Pandharpur resides, is believed to have power to wash all sins. Initially all the devotes were allowed to touch the feet of the idol of Vithoba, but due to many years of numerous devotes the stone at the Lord’s feet chiseled. So as a precautionary measure, none of the devotees are allowed to touch the idol. Only priests are allowed to conduct rituals and touch the idol.

Pandharpur is located on the banks of the Bhima river, which is alternatively known as Chandrabhaga because of its half-moon-like shape. It is named after a merchant, Pandarika who achieved self-realization there.

Pandharpur temple timings or Darshan Timings: Morning 6 to 7, 8 to 11, 11.15 to 4.30 – Evening 5.00 to 7.00 pm, 7.30 to 10.00 p.m & 10.30 to 11.00 p.m.

Pandharpur is about 220 kms from Pune on National Highway 9, Pune to Solapur route. On Wednesdays and Ekadasi days are considered very auspicious in Pandharpur.
