The ISKCON Temple is one of the 40 temples in India that belongs to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, dedicated to Lord Krishna. “Lord Krishna’s birthday or Krishna Janmashtami festivities began on Tuesday for Krishna devotees at Bangalore Iskcon temple.

The Janmashtami festivities in the city take place at the Lakshmi Narayan temple, better known as Birla Mandir, in central Delhi, the ISKCON temple in East of Kailash and Gouri Shankar temple in Old Delhi. Krishna Janmashtami also known as “Krishnashtami”,”Saatam Aatham” ,”Gokulashtami”, “Ashtami Rohini”, “Srikrishna Jayanti”, “Sree Jayanthi” or sometimes merely as “Janmashtami”, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna, an avatar of the Hindu deity Vishnu.

Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Shraavana in the Hindu calendar, when the Rohini Nakshatra is ascendant. The festival always falls within mid-August to mid-September in the Gregorian calendar. In 2010, the festival will be celebrated on 2nd September.
